Two out of four Sebei Members of Parliament have withdrawn their signatures from a censure motion against four back bench commissioners of parliament over the Shs 1.7b ‘service award’.
In a letter dated August 20, 2024, Chemaswet Abdi Fadhil Kisos (NRM Soi County, Kween district) and Chelangat Alinga Solomon (NRM T’oo County, Bukwo district) addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among highlighted that the matter was already in court.
The duo further accuse Hon.Theodre Ssekikubo of raising many issues like “commissioners travelling abroad with their spouses, award of contracts for institution procurements” etc which according to them were not part and parcel of the issues in the motion they appended their signatures to facilitate it’s filing with the clerk to parliament on August 5th, 2024.
Earlier this week, Speaker of Parliament Among informed the house that all the aspects of the censure motion could not be debated because the matter had been addressed in a court ruling by Justice Douglas Karekona Singiza in a case of Bwette Daniel versus parliamentary commission.
Five out of Nine Sebei MPs had earlier on signed the censure motion inclusive; Honorables Evelyn Chemutai (INP DWR Bukwo), Twala Fadil (NRM Tingey County), Phylis Chemutai (NRM DWR Kapchorwa), Chelangat Alinga Solomon (NRM T’oo County) and later Chemaswet Abdi Fadhil Kisos (NRM Soi County), two of whom since have withdrawn.
The censure motion targets Esther Afoyochan (NRM Zombo DWR), Prossy Akampulira (NRM Rubanda DWR), Solomon Silwany (NRM Bukooli Central), and Mathias Mpuuga (NUP Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, Masaka City)
The motion was initially signed by 189 members and Ssekikubo wanted former LOP Mathias Mpuuga and all commissioners that shared the Shs 1.7billion to be censured.
