Long distance world and olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda won the men’s elite race while Alemaddis Eyayu of Ethiopia took the women’s title at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon on Sunday. This is his third attempt at the half marathon distance.
Cheptegei, the reigning world and Olympic champion in men’s 10,000m and 5,000m race, clocked 59.44 seconds to win the race. Eyayu, on the other hand, clocked 1 hour 8 minutes and 17 seconds to claim the elite women’s title.

Cheptegei competed in the half marathon last year in New York where he finished second. With Uganda’s star athlete now fully switching to road races, he will also set his focus on qualifying for the marathon at next year’s Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
