Mrs. Albino Awoor, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kween District, yesterday welcomed the Honorable Minister and the team from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in a monitoring visit to Kween District. She expressed gratitude to the government, led by President Museveni, for funding the district.
According to Mrs. Awoor, Soy County in the lower belts is the most affected area, with only four local governments, a few primary schools, and one secondary school. However, she appreciated the government’s efforts in establishing the Chepsukunya industrial hub, which has helped skill the youth who couldn’t afford secondary or university education.
The RDC Kween, Mrs. Atuhire Hope, emphasized the need to investigate most projects and warned district leaders against sabotaging government programs. She also mentioned that some PDM SACCO leaders have been extorting money from people.
The chairperson of the Local Council 5, Mr. Chelogoi Geoffrey, presented a report on the state of government programs, highlighting local revenue and funding from the central government. He noted that construction works are at 70%, but most projects are incomplete, including the Kitowoi Seed S.S, Moyok seed ss, and Kaptum seed ss.
Mr. Chelogoi alleged that Wiljons Estate construction company, owned by Area MP Hon. William Chemonges, has been doing substandard work despite being paid. He also expressed concerns about the value of the 1 billion shillings allocated for road works and the recoveries of money from YLP, Emyooga, and other projects.
Hon. Hajat Fatuma Namukwaya, Deputy Director Anti Corruption ISO, made a commitment to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure the smooth operation of government programs. She urged leaders to support these initiatives and assured the team that a team of investigators would be sent to the area.
Namukwaya emphasized the importance of clear actions and decisions from those in positions of authority, calling for cooperation with her team. She also appealed to political leaders to work harmoniously with technical teams, putting aside their differences for the sake of better service delivery ¹.
This commitment aligns with the broader goals of combating corruption and promoting good governance. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, for instance, plays a crucial role in investigating corruption complaints and promoting transparency ¹.
